Be absolutely certain that you can be responsible for this purebred Great Dane puppy for the duration of his/her entire life. Consider the cost of their food and medical bills. Know that should you move out of your home, your pup goes with you. Your pup is part of your family and not disposable, but a living, sentient being who trusts you implicitly. Never shake the foundation of that trust. Great Danes bond with their owners and are deeply devoted. Be sure you can provide proper care for this puppy and can have this puppy in your home forever (landlord, HOA approved, insurance approved, no allergies of anyone in the house).

The puppy is being sold on either a Limited or Full Registration. A pet-only home requires Limited Registration; this means there are no breeding rights that come with the purchase of the puppy. Full AKC Registration may be obtained but must be discussed with The Breeder prior to the sale of the puppy. Should The Buyer breed this canine without possessing Full Rights from The Breeder, know that the offspring can never be registered with AKC. The Breeder may choose to pursue legal action and the Puppy Agreement becomes null and void.

The Breeder affirms that the puppy is sold in good health. It is imperative to make arrangements with your veterinarian for a health check-up within 10 calendar days or 5 business days of picking up your new puppy to preserve the status of this agreement. If, for some reason, your vet finds that the puppy is unhealthy or unfit for sale, the puppy may be returned for a full refund - provided the puppy has not been injured or neglected.

The veterinarian must provide a written statement deeming the puppy unhealthy for purchase. This guarantee does not cover any health issues caused by neglect or injury from the buyer. This guarantee does not include minor illnesses and health issues such as colds, allergies, internal or external parasites or umbilical hernias. The Breeder will disclose any known illnesses or health issues prior to the sale.

Agreement becomes null and void otherwise.

The Puppy Agreement does not guarantee hips / joints / elbows / skeletal issues or cartilage issues of any kind, reproductive organs, any disease, virus or any other type of illness, parasite or protozoa infestations. Every effort has been made to ensure the puppy’s health and well-being prior to leaving for its forever home. The Breeder is not responsible for any stress the puppy endures during transport to their new home and once there, any environmentally-induced disorders including, but not limited to kennel cough, pneumonia, hypoglycemia, coccidiosis, giardia, parasites, and mites.

The Buyer also understands that slight genetic defects are not life-threatening and therefore not covered, such as, but not limited to umbilical or inguinal hernias, undescended testicles, under/over bite.

These conditions may be treatable and do not warrant action from The Breeder.

It is understood that Great Danes as a breed are prone (but not limited to) Gastric Torsion, Joint & Bone Disease, Cardiomyopathy, Tricuspid Valve Disease, Thyroid Problems, Degenerative Lumbosacral Stenosis, Ichthyosis, Cancer, Wobbler’s Idiopathic Head Tremors (Benign condition that causes the head to tremor and can be associated with times of high stress, heat cycles or low immunity. Wobbler’s condition is not linked to any genetic disease and there is no known cause. In addition, The Buyer has been made aware (specifically concerning females) of spay/neuter incontinence. There is a chance that if the female/male is spayed or neutered at any point in time, there is a possibility of incontinence (the inability to hold urine). The condition is not Great Dane specific and commonly affects all breeds of dogs. The Buyer has been made aware of some of the common health issues within the breed. It is understood that The Buyer is purchasing a live animal and The Breeder has done everything possible with genetic and health testing to ensure The Buyer is getting the best Great Dane possible. The Buyer assumes the normal risks of owning a dog. If the canine is purchased as a puppy, Von Schaaf Haus DuPree Dobermans & Danes cannot guarantee reproducibility.

All de-worming, microchipping and flea control are performed by The Breeder and a DVM administered all vaccinations. This puppy has received its age-appropriate vaccinations according to schedule and received de-wormings at regular intervals since 2 weeks of age. Monthly Heartgard began at 12 weeks of age and and must continue monthly for the rest of your canine’s life. It is The Buyer’s responsibility as the new owner of this puppy to continue the puppy’s medical care. It is The Buyer’s responsibility to contact a veterinarian immediately if the puppy isn’t eating or drinking properly or is having any type of health issues once this puppy leaves The Breeder’s premises and is in The Buyer’s possession.

There are some schools of thought that believe a puppy should not be spayed or neutered before 18 months of age. They say that early sterilization can be detrimental to the physical and mental growth of young canines. It is their stance that early sterilization can cause not only growth issues but can also increase the chance

of behavioral issues and recommend that puppies be neutered/spayed between 18-24 months of age for puppies placed in pet-only homes. This may not be feasible for many households. We believe that this decision should be between you and your puppy’s DVM and you proceed according to that decision with the puppy you receive from Von Schaaf Haus DuPree Dobermans & Danes.

In purchasing Full Registration, The Breeder states that said female canine shall not be bred until 20 months of age or their second heat.

All registration paperwork will be supplied at pick up but if for some reason, registration paperwork is not available at that time, it will be received by The Buyer within 90 days from the date of pick up.

Exact size, weight and temperament at adulthood cannot be guaranteed. The Breeder can only make an educated guess based upon the parents’ physical characteristics, personalities and previous litters as they matured. All puppies are sold as pet companion quality and are not guaranteed to be show or breeding quality.

The Breeder guarantees that this puppy is healthy and free of all communicable diseases to the best of The Breeder’s knowledge. Once the puppy leaves The Breeder’s premises, they are no longer in the care of The Breeder. The Breeder of this puppy will no longer be responsible for the life, health or well-being of this puppy. The Breeder has done DNA genetic testing for this puppy and also finds no visible faults. The Breeder does not pay or reimburse The Buyer for any vet bills incurred after the puppy leaves The Breeder’s premises.

In the event that The Buyer cannot keep the dog/puppy, the dog/puppy in question will be returned to The Breeder at no cost to The Buyer, regardless of age. If there are expenses incurred to transport the dog/puppy to The Breeder’s location, reimbursement can be discussed. Under no circumstances will the dog/puppy be placed in a shelter, foster home or rescue. If the pup is sold or re-homed without The Breeder’s knowledge, this Puppy Agreement becomes null and void.
